I collected quotes from four suppliers last spring for a 12×14 attached build, and the spread was $21,000 to $38,000 for structures that looked nearly identical in renderings. Understanding what separated them — and which differences mattered — is the whole reason to read a cost article rather than just a price list.
Start with the naked system: frame, blades, one motor, and the drain-through-columns engineering that defines the category. At 12×14 (168 square feet), that's $25,000–$50,000 at full list pricing — though real-world quotes for this size commonly settle at $20,000–$30,000 once dealer margins flex.
Why so expensive per foot? Three reasons worth internalizing. The aluminum is structural and extruded — 2mm-plus blade walls, box-section beams. The drainage is engineered into the frame rather than bolted on. And every unit is essentially made-to-order; these aren't warehouse items with volume discounts behind them.
The base structure is barely half the story on premium builds. Each layer adds its own line:

The same system prices differently by market. Labor in major metros runs 20–30% above rural quotes.
